Alexander is a native of Camden, New Jersey who began boxing when he was 22 years old. Alexander amassed an impressive 47-3 record as an amateur.
A graduate of Montclair State University, Alexander obtained his degree in Criminal Justice after turning down an offer from a professional boxing camp with just a few months remaining at Montclair. After he declined to join this prominent camp, the offer was off the table.
"I wanted to show everyone that boxers can go out there and get degrees, not everyone has to be straight out of jail and have a bad reputation to be good. Boxing is not about who's tougher outside or inside of the ring." Says Alexander "It's about who's smarter or whoever figures out whom first. It's like chess. You have to take advantage of every mistake your opponent makes, and you win."
Robert Bryant has been a friend of Alexander's family and knew Max when he was still in grade school. Now he serves as his manager.
"Max has a tremendous upside. His ability, his height, weight and speed makes him very gifted within his division. This division is usually made up of guys who are a lot slower than Max," Bryant said. "He wants to learn, develop and be around a long time."
