Favorite Jones 12-1

In an impressive exhibition of poise, speed and skill, 26 year old Roy Jones Jr. scored a convincing technical knockout over Vinny Pazienza to retain his IBF super middleweight title.

Given the quality of the opponent, this performance was one of the best in Jones' illustrious career as he put on a display of fistic wizardry, throwing combinations that most fighters rarely even attempt. Jones hooked off uppercuts and uppercutted off hooks. Again and again, Jones jabbed and hooked.

In Round 4, the usually-busy Pazienza was unable to land a single punch. Not one. He was so pre-occupied fending off jabs that he could attempt no more than five punches the entire round.

A knockout was inevitable, and it came in the sixth round. Jones floored the formidable, but over-matched, challenger three times en route to a stoppage.  It was the first time Pazienza, a man who prided himself on his heart and his chin, had been stopped via knockout.

Roy Jones' performance on this night was truly classic!

50-45 twice; 49-46 (Jones)

Pazienza down 3x in the 6th.

Roy Jones Jr becomes the first fighter in CompuBox history to go an entire round (4) without being hit by his opponent.

Total punches:
Jones    173/308 (56%)
Pazienza 45/110 (41%)
