In a clash of former world champions, unbeaten featherweight Yuriorkis Gamboa (21-0, 16 KOs) scored a eight round technical decision over determined Daniel Ponce De Leon (41-4, 34 KOs) on Saturday night at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Gamboa had the clear speed advantage and was usually able to beat Ponce De Leon to the punch, but Ponce De Leon did his share of damage also. A vertical cut over the left eye of Ponce De Leon occurred in round eight and the bout went to the scorecards where Gamboa prevailed by scores of 70-63, 70-63, 69-64. Time was 1:24.
