Mar 13 Update
Tick, tick, tick. Time is running out on Canelo vs Saunders for May 2. Is Coronavirus the reason Canelo Alvarez vs Billy Joe Saunders hasn't been confirmed yet?

A host of other boxing cards, scheduled to take place in March or April, have been cancelled or postponed while more are teetering on those statuses,

Even if Coronavirus is sorted out by May 2, it would be of little consolation to those involved because it takes many weeks to market an event of this magnitude and venue space, hotel rooms and travel logistics (for fans and all involved) have to be in place well before fight weekend.

The trigger on this affair should have been pulled weeks ago.

Perhaps promoters are contemplating the fallout of showcasing Canelo vs Saunders in an empty venue? After all, the network responsible for broadcasting the card, DAZN, is looking to expand its subscriber base and what better way to get the public's attention than when everyone is quarantined at home watching TV and surfing the internet?

Mar 7 Update
For many weeks, we heard rumors GGG would be facing lightly-regarded Pol Kamil Szeremeta. 'The fight will be finalized any day now' was the redundant tone of boxing media. Initially, Golovkin vs Szeremeta was going to happen in February or March. And then it was pushed backed to April. And recently, we learned GGG vs Szeremeta would be pushed back indefinitely due to a Golovkin calf injury.

As the months go by, there's less and less talk about a third fight with Canelo Alvarez. And as the months go by, there's more focus on the heavyweights, such as Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder, Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz, emerging stars such as Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia, and the long list of possible of opponents for Canelo in May.

Jan 10 Update
Although several reports were released, stating that a deal was close for a championship bout between Canelo and current WBO Super Middleweight titlist Billy Joe Saunders, Golden Boy Promotions, in early January, confirmed that nothing has been negotiated up to this point with either party.

"No, there's nothing there," claimed Oscar De la Hoya in a recent interview with FightSaga.com.  "We as Canelo's promoter haven't discussed anything whatsoever about any opponent.  But we hope that in the near future, within the next couple of days or weeks, we'll sit down with Team Canelo.  Then we'll sit down with DAZN, and figure out the opponent."

After brokering a lucrative and exclusive 11 fight deal worth $365 million between Canelo and DAZN in October of 2018, it seems that Golden Boy Promotions is currently experiencing some communication issues with their superstar client of eleven plus years.
