Heavyweight powerbroker Alexander Povetlkin (34-1, 24 KOs) withstood a game challenge from David Price (22-5, 18 KOs), knocking out the Brit in Round 5 on the undercard of the Anthony Joshua vs Joseph Parker heavyweight title unification bout.

With the win, Price is secures his place as a top 5 heavyweight and a likely heavyweight title shot.

The 38 year old Povetkin, six inches shorter than his foe, knocked down Price in Round 3 only to take a standing eight count at round's end compliments a hard left counter left hook. The punch badly staggered Alex who fell into the ropes. But unfortunately for David, just as the fighters commenced, the bell would ring to mark the conclusion of the round.

Price used his jab to control a now more-tentative Povetkin in Round 4. And then in Round 5, Povetkin unleashed a right hand that seemed to have Price out on his feet. While Price stood stunned and unprotected, Povetkin uncorked a wicked left hook that sent Price crashing to the canvas for good.

Price, once considered by some as the heir to the Klitschko dynasty, will have to re-evaluate his career.

Povetkin is ranked No.3 in the division by BoxRec.
