Alexis Garcia (10-0): 5'9" heavyweight with fluctuating weight returns July 21
And I thought my weight fluctuated...
On July 21, boxer Alexis Garcia (10-0, 6 KO) steps back into the ring to face Johnny Molina (9-3-1) in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Astounding fluctuations in weight makes the 30-year-old, 5'9" Garcia such a compelling fighter.
For his pro debut in October 2016, Garcia tipped the scale at 218 pounds. And several weeks later, he fought again at 215 pounds.
Not a big deal, right?
Let's fast forward to October 2020. Garcia weighed a hefty 285 lbs, 70 pounds more than just four years prior.
However, for his bouts before and after that one, Alexis was much leaner, weighing 261 and 268, respectively.
And we're not finished yet... For a fight in March 2017, Garcia came in at 231 only to be 25 pounds heavier (256) nine months later. And seven weeks after that, Garcia entered a bout at just 230, 26 pounds lighter.
Talk about yo-yo dieting. Even for a heavyweight boxer, his weight fluctuations are significant.
Much of the intrigue for Garcia vs Molina on Monday will be the former's weight? Will he come in as low as 230 or as high as 300 pounds?
Poor Molina has no idea what kind of shape Garcia will be in or what version of the Dominican he'll encounter.
Alexis Garcia, whose BoxRec rating is 100 of 1,093 active heavyweights, weighed 268 pounds for his most recent bout on March 12.
The same site ranks him as the Dominican Republic's No. 2 heavyweight (George Arias 16-0 is ranked No.1).
