Andre Berto Purse vs Mayweather: Sweet deal
Tonight, Floyd Mayweather, the highest paid athlete in the world, will earn a measly $32 Million when he faces underdog Andre Berto.
Floyd pocketed upwards of $250 Million his most recent fight against Manny Pacquiao and is purportedly not happy with the pay cut.
Mayweather vs Berto will serve as Floyd's final bout in his six-fight, 30-month contract with Showtime/CBS, which he pinned in February 2013.
So what's Andre Berto's purse?
The welterweight challenger will garner a handsome sum of $4 Million.
Given Berto, in addition to being a massive underdog, is not a top 7 or 8 welterweight and hasn't looked dynamic against a top opponent in the ring since 2011, his pay will be pretty sweet despite the fact PPV numbers for Mayweather vs Berto are expected to be modest at best.
Last year, Marcos Maidana, a presumably tougher, more accomplished foe, earned a $1.5 Million guarantee for facing Floyd in Spring 2014. And even after taking the legend to the limit in their first encounter, Maidana's guaranteed purse was only $3 Million for their rematch.
And Robert Guerrero, who had defeated Berto prior to facing Floyd in Spring 2013, only pocketed $3 Million for his dust-up with 'Money May.'
Andre Berto's purse of $4 Million will be the highest of his career to date.
