AJ did his best imitation of Lennox Lewis to exact his revenge against the only fighter to defeat him.
No, it wasn't the version of the once dominant British Heavyweight who knocked Hasim Rahman into obscurity, but more like the man who gave David Tua a boxing lesson in November of 2000.
On Saturday, December 7, 2019, at the Diriyah Arena in Saudi Arabia, Anthony Joshua pitched a virtual shutout against former, "one and done" heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. to regain his WBO, WBA, IBF, and IBO titles.
The judges at ringside scored the contest 119-109 and 118-110 twice for a unanimous decision in favor of the now two-time heavyweight champion. Joshua improves his record to 23-1, 21 KOs, while Ruiz loses only for the second time in his 10 year professional career and moves to 33-2, 22 KOs.
Joshua put on a boxing masterclass for twelve consecutive rounds, consistently moving from left to right while controlling range with his jab and sharp overhand right. Ruiz was unable to cut off the ring and close the distance effectively, appearing to merely follow around the better prepared fighter.
After the ostensibly anti-climactic 12 round affair, both fighters seemed to be happy in promoting an imminent rubber match for 2020.
