Brook vs Khan (early) odds: Is Amir becoming irrelevant?
The much-anticipated all-British welterweight showdown between rivals and former champions Kell Brook and Amir Khan may never happen.
But, hypothetically, should that fight be finalized today Kell Brook, not Khan, would be the favorite.
(as of 7/19/17)
Given Khan's experience and resume, one would likely assume he's be the favorite, albeit a close one.
Is Khan becoming irrelevant?
So, why is Kell Brook, a loser of his last two bouts, a favorite?
For starters, he fought valiantly in both losses having faced naturally bigger, stronger man in Gennady Golovkin and a freak of nature in Errol Spence, Jr. There's no shame in losing to either opponent, especially given their pedigree and weapons in the ring.
Also, Kell has been more active than Amir lately. Since May 2015, Brook has fought five times while Amir has entered the ring just twice.
And while Khan has enjoyed the limelight longer, he hasn't defeated a true elite opponent since 2010 (Marcos Maidana).
At least Brook has his 2014 win over Shawn Porter.
And lastly, Kell also seems to have more punching power at welterweight as Khan hasn't scored a stoppage since 2012 while Brook has scored several impressive knockouts albeit against lesser opposition.
