Canelo vs Khan: Former Alvarez foe has mixed emotionsHot
"Well that's [Canelo vs Khan] not a set-up for a Triple G (Gennady Golovkin) fight is it?," Trout, a previous Canelo opponent, told EsNews.
"It doesn't seem like he's trying to fight Triple G to me. Doesn't make much sense."
"[Canelo Alvarez] is gonna fight a 140 pounder for the middleweight title."
However, Trout stopped short of calling it a mis-match, and insisted a Khan victory isn't outside the realm of reason due to the latter's solid skills.
Canelo vs Trout
Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez unified the WBC and WBA Super Welterweight titles with a unanimous decision victory over Austin Trout in April 2013, five months before the former's superfight with Floyd Mayweather. With the win over Austin, who had upset Miguel Cotto several months prior, Canelo also obtained the prestigious RING Magazine Super Welterweight title and solidified himself as an elite fighter.
For many, Canelo vs Trout was closer than the judges' cards (116-111 and 118-109 and 115-113) indicated. In fact, some believed Austin should have been awarded the decision or a draw.
Although Trout was more active, landed more and was relatively equal with Canelo in the powershots category, supporters of the verdict insisted Canelo deserved a 10-8 score for a knockdown and ensuing dominance in Round 7. Moreover, they argued Alvarez's powershots were harder and more eye-catching and caused greater damage than Trout's.
Will we see something similar in Canelo vs Khan?
