Evander Holyfield sparred with Andy Ruiz in 2011 (video)
Newly-crowned unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz (33-1, 22 KO), as a 21 year old in 2011, sparred with the legendary Evander Holyfield who was 48.
"He's good, we sparred when I was 46 and he was 19," Holyfield told TMZ (Actually, Evander was 48 and Ruiz was 21 at the time).
"He showed that he was good then. I'm sure when people continue to practice, they work, they continue to get better."
It's believed Evander was training for his May showdown with Brian Nielsen when he sparred the young Ruiz.
Holyfield would go on to KO the Dane in Round 10 of their May 7th showdown which would serve as the legend's final fight.
But even then, Ruiz was an undefeated pro with 7 or 8 fights under his belt.
In the video, we see the fighters trading good shots.
It's truly amazing how so many people totally dismissed Ruiz's chances against Anthony Joshua. He's a strong, technique-oriented heavyweight with fast hands who had an accomplished amateur career and subsequently sparred who some top pros during his ascent to the title.
