Filip Hrgovic: Olympic star to fight Sam Peter conqueror, Aug 24
Fast-rising Filip Hrgovic (8-0, 6 KO) will face Mario Heredia (16-6-1, 13 KO) on Saturday, August 24th at Centro de Usos Multiples in Hermosillo, Mexico.
A 2016 Olympic bronze medal winner, Filip is a 27 year old, highly-touted heavyweight prospect from Croatia who is promoted by Sauerland Promotion. He's quickly moving up the heavyweight ranks and boasts wins over Kevin Johnson and Amir Mansour.
Currently rated No. 17 in the division by BoxRec, Hrgovic last fought in May, stopping Gregory Corbin (then 15-1) inside the distance.
Interesting tidbit: Filip made his pro debut against a fella who had 56 pro bouts (Raphael Zumbano 39-15-1, 31 KO) and stopped him in Round 1.
Filip's opponent, Mario Heredia, is fresh off a split decision upset win over 38 year old former champion Sam Peter in April. In that bout, the 5'10" Heredia rebounded from a 3rd Round knockdown and, after ten rounds, managed to convince 2 of the 3 judges he outworked Peter the rest of the way.
Mexico's top-rated heavyweight, Heredia is ranked No. 48 in the division by BoxRec.
