Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao officially launch 'Fight Week' in Las VegasHot
Tuesday, April 28, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will formally kick-off “Big Fight Week” in Las Vegas, Nevada, making their “Grand Arrivals” at two separate locations, as well as two different time slots.
Although the Pacman made it to “Sin City” from his camp in Los Angeles via Pacquiao tour bus on Monday, the Filipino icon is slated to officially greet his public this afternoon at 11:00 a.m. PT in Mandalay Bay’s South Convention Center’s Bayside C. The media event will be free to the public with doors opening at 10:00 a.m. PT.
Pacquiao was originally scheduled to appear at the MGM Grand Resort and Casino along with his opponent, Money Mayweather, in one massive media undertaking. But through the guidance and wisdom of his promoter, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, the 36 year old fight legend will be holding his own special arrival for his respective fans.
The decision partially stems from Arum’s publicized feud with MGM officials for his superstar fighter’s treatment in the week preceding his PPV showdown with Tim Bradley last year.
Upon Pacquiao’s arrival to the MGM Grand on April 10, 2014, the venue was littered with banners publicizing Mayweather’s May 3 event with Marcos Maidana.
Arum obviously took exception to the gesture, but claims the incident wasn’t the primary motivation for the strategic move to the Mandalay Bay.
“We have an obligation to the fans and the press,” the Hall of Fame promoter recently told ESPN. “We just don’t think the grand arrivals are secure enough. It’s like a mob scene in the MGM’s lobby, particularly for this fight. Instead we’ll have a big ballroom completely roped off. We’ll all be there and we’ll have the rally and then we’ll go with the selected press to sit with us and answer their questions.”
If fans wish to attend both fighters’ respective “pep-rallies”, Mayweather’s scheduled arrival at this Saturday night’s host site is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m. PT, with doors opening at 1:00 p.m. PT.
Mayweather has promised his fans an “unforgettable arrival” at the MGM Grand this afternoon.
The “Money May” show at the MGM will feature Southern University’s “Human Jukebox” marching band, comedian Ricky Smiley, and will be hosted by entertainer Doug E. Fresh.
