While both networks negotiate terms for the highly anticipated Mayweather/Pacquiao super fight, the boxing world has no choice but to wait with bated breath. In the interim, numerous statements have been leaked to the media from various boxing insiders; each one offering their respective opinion on whether or not the clamored event will eventually come to fruition.

Although most fight fans choose to remain hopeful throughout this belabored and painstaking process, one insider's commentary is completely discouraging

On Saturday, January 24, after calling the anticlimactic rubber match between Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado in Denver, Colorado, longtime HBO commentator and analyst Jim Lampley gave a resolute answer, concerning whether or not the fight of the century will indeed take place in May.

"Cotto is going to fight Mayweather on May 2," stated the future Hall of Fame commentator to ESNEWS. "But the fight is not made yet."

Although the head of programming for Showtime Sports, Stephen Espinoza, did his best on Saturday, January 24, to silence numerous aspersions directed towards their network superstar, Floyd Mayweather Jr., it did very little to persuade the renowned HBO employee.

The voice of HBO Boxing seemed so convinced that a rematch between Miguel Cotto and Floyd Mayweather Jr. was inevitable, he even offered his thoughts on an eventual outcome.

"I don't know. I think it's like 60/40 (in favor of) Mayweather, but I give Cotto a shot."

Although most boxing pundits and supporters are hoping Lampley's forecast isn't accurate, the HBO insider's message doesn't seem very promising.
