Floyd Mayweather Jr: “I haven’t signed yet, and Pacquiao hasn’t signed yet”Hot
After reading several reports on Valentine’s Day, claming that Manny Pacquiao signed his side of the contract and was merely waiting for Mayweather to announce the clamored super fight, the boxing community once again went crazy with enthusiasm for the show that never seems to end, “Money May vs. The Pacman”
“Manny has 100 percent signed his side of the deal,” the undisclosed source close to Pacquiao told the Telegraph Sport on Saturday, February 14. “It’s now over to Mayweather to close the deal and announce the fight.”
To add some drama to the already overplayed storyline, Floyd Jr. was rumored to have plans of officially announcing the mega-fight before or during the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, February 15, in New York City.
While Mayweather was indeed in attendance at Sunday night’s NBA game in the Big Apple, the pound for pound king of boxing couldn’t give millions of sports fans tuning in the news they desperately wanted to hear.
When asked by TNT correspondent David Aldridge whether or not the fight was officially “a done deal”, the soon to be 38 year old fighter had to squash the circulated rumors.
"That’s not true,” stated Floyd Mayweather Jr. “I haven’t signed yet, and he (Pacquiao) hasn’t signed yet. It’s just been speculations and rumors, but hopefully we can make the fight happen."
When asked by the longtime NBA analyst about whether or not his next fight will continue to take place in May, the highest paid athlete in sports was resolute.
“I’m Mayweather…we have to make it happen in May.”
According to Bob Arum, promoter for Manny Pacquiao, everyone involved should adopt a greater sense of urgency if they plan to stage the PPV event on May 2.
“I’m very optimistic,” stated the Hall of Fame promoter to the Las Vegas Review. “We’re waiting to hear from Floyd. But from everyone’s perspective, it needs to get resolved this week. You have to start planning things, and there’s a lot that has to be done.”
Hopefully fight fans will receive the resolution and clarity they seek
