Floyd Mayweather to be stripped of WBO crown?

Various sources are reporting that the World Boxing Organization (WBO) is set to strip undefeated 147 and 154 lb. kingpin Floyd Mayweather Jr. of its version of the welterweight title.

Already the WBA and WBC welterweight belt-holder, Mayweather added the WBO welterweight belt when he defeated Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao in May.

Recently, WBO president Paco Valcarcel mandated that Floyd vacate his WBA and WBC championships at 154 lbs and pay a titular sanctioning fee of $200,000 dollars to defend the WBO belt or the organization will strip him of its title.

Why?

WBO rules state their champions cannot concurrently have titles from other sanctioning bodies in multiple weight classes.

Mayweather had until the end of the business day on Friday to make a decision and there's no word on whether he will submit to the WBO's request and relinquish his 154 lb titles or simply allow the WBO to strip him of the organization's welterweight crown. Neither Mayweather nor his agent have replied to the WBO concerning this matter.

It is expected that recently-crowned interim WBO Welterweight titilist Timothy "Desert Storm" Bradley will be elevated to full title status next week.
