Floyd Mayweather vs Bob Arum? Promoter insists “There is no great feud"

Joseph Herron Updated February 13, 2019

Now that Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao have agreed to terms for a historic meeting on May 2nd, every fight fan can breathe a collective sigh of relief.

For years, many fervent Mayweather supporters believed the clamored super fight would never happen while the Filipino Congressman remained loyal to the Top Rank promotional banner, and more specifically the organization’s CEO Bob Arum.

The widespread fan sentiment was predominately believed to be true because of various disparaging comments made through the boxing media by Floyd Mayweather himself.

At one point in time, it was rumored that Floyd made Arum a $10 million offer to merely step aside to allow Pacquiao/Mayweather negotiations to ensue.

The always outspoken, five-decade boxing promoter insists the attitude was entirely fabricated and statements were largely misinterpreted by often intrusive internet media.

“I’ve never had a problem with Floyd,” claims the Hall of Fame promoter. “A lot of people made an issue of this great feud that Floyd and I had with each other, but that wasn’t the case.”

“Floyd is very close and friendly with my step son, Todd DuBoef."

"They consider themselves to be friends. And whenever I ran into Floyd, whether it was at Jerry Jones’ box at the Super Bowl or other places, we embraced each other. Floyd has peculiarities, as do I…but everybody does.”

“But Floyd, I thought, handled his part of the negotiations very well, and I think that face to face meeting at the Miami Heat basketball game a number of weeks ago also helped clear the air and lead to final agreement.”

One could surmise that the proof is in the result. A fight deal was finally reached and announced on Friday, February 20, and everything currently seems to be “okay” between the two business partners…for now.

Fight fans will ultimately see the conclusion of the long and heated rivalry on May 2, at the MGM’s Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
