Rumors have circulated for several weeks and just a few days ago FightSaga was informed by an anonymous, prominent figure in the Garcia camp that Mayweather vs Garcia may be in the works.
"We're getting Mayweather next in September," the source told FightSaga.
The source seemed quite confident, insisting the fight was a long time coming.
Also, another source within the camp told FightSaga Floyd vs Danny is "definitely happening."
"It's going to happen in September in the new MGM [referring to T-Mobile Arena] a source told FightSaga. "I'd bet all the money I have that the fight is happening."
If what FightSaga has learned is true, in addition to Eddie Hearn's side of the story, it should not be a surprise if we see Mayweather vs Garcia at the new T-Mobile Arena on September 10th.
What's pretty interesting here is that Golden Boy Promotions is expecting to have that arena booked on the same date for a Canelo Alvarez fight, possibly against Gennady Golovkin.
"You know, I can easily put a halt on that fight [Canelo/Khan] if I chose to call Mr. Garcia, [Danny] Garcia's dad, if I chose to call him and say, 'You know what, sir, you're a hell of a trainer, you're son's a hell of a fighter, he's an undefeated champion, I'm an undefeated champion, and think it would be great for me and your son both to make a lot of money."
"And like I said before, you're very outspoken, my dad is very outspoken; it would be good for me to come back for number 50 and fight the undefeated Danny Garcia, you know, at the MGM Grand.'"
"You know, since Danny Garcia is undefeated and he's very explosive, he's a very good fighter, and he really represents Puerto Rico the same way that Trinidad did."
"Even though he's from Philadelphia, he represents the red, white, and blue for Puerto Rico. I'll go over to the MGM Grand and say, 'You know what? We need a venue also,' and we'll see '" Floyd told FightHype.
Floyd has always been very egotistical, and given his ongoing 'war' with Canelo's promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, he'd love nothing more than to shove it in Oscar's face and get the coveted date back.
Another thing to watch for, should this fight happen, is broadcast medium. Floyd's deal with Showtime is up and 'Money May' has claimed over the last few months that he has '9 figure deals' on the table for his return.
Will this fight, should it take place in September, be aired on network TV?
Given Danny Garcia is part of the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) 'package,' it wouldn't be a shock if the fight took place on CBS due to PBC's recent ratings struggles and boxing's PPV disappointments post Pacquiao vs Mayweather.
Of course, neither source offered us network details.
So there you have it... Eddie Hearn's comments are not out of the blue.
Check back with FightSaga as we will have further news on any developments regarding this possible fight.
