Fritz Sdunek: Klitschko trainer passes away at age 67

It's being reported that longtime Vitali Klitschko trainer, Fritz Sdunek, passed away on Monday morning, December 22, at age 67.

The prolific boxing coach was admitted into a hospital in Hamburg, Germany, upon suffering a heart attack days ago, and couldn't recover.

Sdunek coached both Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, leading both fighters to WBO Heavyweight titles. The Lussow, German native also trained Dariusz Michalczewski, Felix Sturm, Zsolt Erdei, and Sebastian Zbik.

Upon hearing the tragic news, the Klitschko Brothers released this statement:

"Today we received the sad news that our friend and former coach Fritz Sdunek has passed away."

"When we came to Germany, Fritz was the most important person to us. He always supported us and was the coach that made us world champions - we will forever be grateful. Fritz's death is a huge personal loss to us. In this hard times our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

"Our deepest condolences, RIP our Fritzi..."

Sdunek is survived by his wife and two children. His daughter is married to promoter Ahmet Oner, former prizefighter and founder of Arena-Box Promotions.
