Fury vs Povetkin odds: Does Hughie's team see something?
Yes, Povetkin vs Fury will take place on the Vasyl Lomachenko vs Luke Campbell fight card on August 31.
“I spoke to Anthony Joshua about this fight – he is fascinated by it,” promoter Eddie Hearn said via DailyTust.com.
“Hughie will have to come through fire in this fight to win but, if he does, the rewards are huge.”
Fury vs Povetkin odds
Not surprisingly, the 39 year old Russian is a solid favorite. Betway, BetVictor and bet365 have Alex at 1/2 while the Brit sits at 6/4. Odds for a draw are between 20 and 25 to 1.
Young fighters like Fury usually don't face experienced and dangerous opponents like Povetkin so freely and without any titles or big money to be made. Sure, Alex is 39 and was KO'd in his most recent bout by Anthony Joshua, but neither is anything to be ashamed of.
Do Hughie & Co see something in Povetkin they think they can expose?
Alexander was one of the most accomplished amateur heavyweights ever. And after winning the gold at the 2004 Summer Olympics, he finished his amateur career with a record of 125–7, with all losses avenged.
Hence, in his extended amateur career and long stint as a pro, he's defeated everyone he's faced sans Wladimir Klitschko and Anthony Joshua.
Povetkin has solid power in both hands and underrated hand-speed. He's also quite durable, has a great sense of awareness in the ring, closes the distance well, applies intelligent pressure, and is a fine combination puncher.
So, what does Team Fury see?
Alexander Povetkin: Most Significant Fights
May 22, 2015
Won KO 10 Carlos Takam
May 30, 2014
Lost UD 12 Wladimir Klitschko
Oct 5, 2013
For starters, the fight was announced a mere 4 weeks before it's scheduled to take place. Is Povetkin overweight and out of shape, and without the time needed to properly prepare himself?
And did Povetkin, in the eyes of Team Fury, look shopworn against Joshua? Did they see some fundamental mistakes Hughie can capitalize on? Even his his brutal KO of David Price last year, Povetkin was staggered badly.
Are things starting to unravel for Alex?
Povetkin vs Fury will take place at O2 Arena, Greenwich.
