Golovkin vs Brook prediction: "I think Kell has a chance to win"

With just two weeks remaining until universally recognized Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin takes on undefeated Welterweight title holder Kell Brook in front of a capacity crowd at the sold-out O2 Arena in London, England, many within the boxing community are starting to wonder whether or not the 5 to 1 betting underdog can pull-off the massive upset.

Former two-division world champion Paulie Malignaggi believes a victory for Brook isn't beyond the realm of possibility.

"Although you have to favor Golovkin in this fight, I think Kell has a chance," the Showtime Sports expert commentator recently stated to FightHype.com.

Despite recognizing the obvious strengths that Golovkin brings into each and every match-up, Paulie does see a potential weakness that may be exploited by someone as athletically gifted as the current IBF Welterweight champion.

"Golovkin positions himself in front of you all of the time. He's cutting the ring off. So aside from the physical pressure, he's applying mental pressure and forcing you to make mistakes in the ring. Although Golovkin cuts off the ring and presents himself in front of you the whole time, he never moves his head. A sharp puncher like Brook maybe can land some shots."

While Malignaggi does see several windows of opportunity opening up for the hometown fighter throughout the scheduled twelve round Golovkin vs Brook showdown, the astute, ringside analyst doesn't know if it will be enough to pull-off the perceived upset. "The Magic Man" believes the September 10 match-up will ultimately be decided by the fighter who can take the best punch.

"Will Brook's punches affect Golovkin? I don't know. Although Golovkin cuts the ring off and positions himself in front of you...he doesn't get wild."

"He gets you in position and then tags you with hard shots. I don't know if Brook will be able to take them. But at the same time, Brook is a very sharp puncher who will be able to land his shots because Gennady doesn't move his head."

"So I think there will be opportunities for Kell, but I don't know if he can take the thunder that Golovkin will be bringing."

During the customary, pre-fight Golovkin vs Brook 30-day weigh-in, the Brit scaled in at a surprising 176 pounds, almost 30 pounds heavier than the traditional Welterweight limit of 147. It's apparent Special K is hoping the added girth will increase his ability to take Golovkin's renowned brand of power.

While Kell would be foolish to test the theory often during the fight, his willingness to let his hands go while Triple G is attempting to land hard shots might be his only realistic chance to win.

Fight fans will finally get find out how this story unfolds on Saturday, September 10.
