Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (29-0, 26KOs) returns to the ring on July 26th to defend his WBA and IBO Middleweight titles against Daniel Geale (30-2 16KOs) at the world’s most famous arena Madison Square Garden. This will be the 32 year old Golovkin’s third defense of his middleweight titles at Madison Square Garden.

In his previous two previous fights at MSG, he scored a seventh round TKO victory over Gabriel Rosado in January 2013, and an 8th TKO victory over Curtis Stevens in November.

Golovkin is arguably the hardest puncher, pound for pound, in boxing and has the highest knockout ratio of any active champion in boxing.

Originally, Golovkin and his team were hoping to make a fight with Julio Chazez Jr. However, when negotiations went south, the 33 year old Geale stepped in.

Geale is seeking to once again become a middleweight champion.

He lost his IBF championship by spilt decision in August of 2013 to Darren Barker. After that setback, Geale registered a sixth round TKO victory over Garth Wood in February. He will have to be at his best if he is to pull off an upset against Golovkin.

Some power punchers will sometimes fight recklessly as they try to land their power shots - But that is not the case with Golovkin. The fighter dubbed GGG will methodically and systematically work behind his jab, establish the proper angles, and then throw his power hooks to the head and body.

He is very efficient when he stalks and attacks opponents.

The winner of this fight may see himself back at MSG on HBO PPV later this year to take on the newly crowned WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs).

Should Golovkin win but is unable to fight Cotto, he may revisit the chance to fight Chavez Jr at super middleweight or, perhaps, take on the number two fighter pound for pound Andre Ward in the same division
