Golovkin vs. Lemieux: “PPV price is for the fans,” states legend

On Tuesday, August 18, WBA champ Gennady Golovkin and IBF titlist David Lemieux met face to face at the inevitable October 17th war zone in New York City to promote their highly anticipated, Middleweight showdown, slated to be distributed by HBO PPV.

Although the premium 160 pound match-up required a “premium” televised platform, ring legend and Golden Boy Promotions executive Bernard Hopkins claims all parties involved intended to give fans the greatest value for their hard earned entertainment dollar while determining the respective cost.

“This is entirely premeditated,” the all-time great Middleweight legend stated to ESNEWS at the packed media event. “The fans are going to get more for less. You pay less, and you’re going to get more…just by their styles.”

“And I’m telling people before hand, they’re going to be really upset after October 17, when the [Golovkin vs Lemieux] fight goes down and it happens, that they paid all of that money for that fight in May.”

The future Hall of Famer is referring to the disappointment mainstream and casual sports fans felt after purchasing the dramatically hyped “Mayweather vs. Pacquiao” super fight for $100 in HD. Although many die-hard fight fans appreciated the “action” put forth by both pound for pound fighters on May 2, most casual observers felt slighted by the hefty price tag and the cautious effort displayed by both competing athletes.

Especially after it was revealed by Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, who handles Manny Pacquiao, that the Pacman was operating with an injured right shoulder throughout the entire twelve round contest.

Hopkins claims “Golovkin vs. Lemieux” will showcase the very best boxing has to offer on Saturday, October 17.

“Everyone involved with this fight is proud to deliver this particular match-up to the fans,” stated the 50 year old, boxing icon.

“As a former longtime Middleweight champion, this historic division is in good hands, and both fighters’ legacies will start in October at the legendary Madison Square Garden.”

“This is something very, very special. When you have the KO ratio of both fighters, you don’t have time to get your popcorn. I can’t see this fight going the distance. It’s that type of fight, where you know there’s going to be plenty of fireworks.”

Not only is Golovkin vs Lemieux one of the best possible match-ups in boxing, the HBO PPV event is being offered to the paying customer at the same price tag as the over-ripened “Mosley/Mayorga II” bout, via Integrated Sports PPV on August 29.

“This is going to be a surreal experience for the real fans of boxing,” claims Bernard Hopkins. “These types of unification bouts don’t happen very often in boxing…and for the price of $49.95 on PPV, there’s no reason not to tune in.”
