Joshua vs Klitschko 2 odds: No surprises for rematch

Look for the heavyweight title fight rematch between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko to be announced soon.

And while it won't take place in Joshua's native UK again, oddsmakers don't think location will make a difference.

As we suspected, Joshua is a slighly heavier favorite than he was in their first meeting in April.

Back then, bet365 had Joshua as the 4 to 11 favorite and Wlad the 9 to 4 underdog. That means a $100 bet on the IBF Champ yielded a $ 37 net return. The same bet on Wladimir would have generated a $225 if the Ukraianan was triumphant.

Joshua vs Klitschko 2 odds
(as of July 12)

Anthony Joshua 2/7
Wladimir Klitschko 13/5

A successful $100 bet on the Brit would produce about $29 while the same wager on Wlad would award $260.

But Klitschko almost KO'd Joshua - Shouldn't the odds be closer instead of greater?

Joshua has the clear psychological advantage now because he took Wlad's best, endured getting hurt and being knocked down, and rallied to get off the canvas to stop Wlad inside the distance. Hence, the Brit has demonstrated he can hurt and KO a very focused, superbly-conditioned Wladimir Klitschko.

Moreover, Joshua will enter the ring with the confidence of knowing he's already whopped Wlad once, and sumething that shouldn't be underestimated.

Wlad, on the other hand, has only shown that when he is in the best possible shape, he can hurt Anthony and give him a 'run for his money.'

Joshua vs Klitschko 2 -
The Rematch

Date: TBD
Location: TBD
Venue: TBD

Broadcast (not confirmed):
SKY Sports (UK); Showtime (U.S.), HBO (Delayed U.S.)

Division: Heavyweight
Titles: WBA / IBF (or just the IBF alone)

Champion: Joshua (IBF)
Presumed Favorite: Joshua

To win the rematch, Wlad will not only have to train with the same intensity, focus and determination he had for their April bout, he'll need an even better game plan... if one exists.

Wlad fought intelligently, looked immaculately prepared and appeared to follow a well-constructed game plan in their first bout. Now, bettors are asking themselves, "What on earth can Wlad do any different the second time around?"

They are not convinced Klitschko can make the necessary adjustments that will ultimately lead him to victory.

The odds are clearly against the 41 year old Klitschko, but he's a legend who has already overcome so many obstacles in his career so an upset would still be far from a shocker.
