Saturday April 29, undefeated IBF titlist Anthony Joshua will defend his portion of the Heavyweight crown against former universally recognized champion and future Hall of Famer Wladimir Klitschko in front of 90,000 spectators inside the world renowned Wembley Stadium in London, England.
The scheduled twelve round fight. Joshua vs Klitschko, will in the U.S. live on Showtime Championship Boxing at 4:15PM ET, with an encore presentation at 11PM ET/PT on HBO's World Championship Boxing series. The entire event will be offered on SkySports Box Office in the UK for £19.95 / €24.95 with a start time of 6PM BST.

While most ringside observers and fight fans believe A.J. indeed has the skill, power and athleticism to send a 41 year old "Dr. Steelhammer" into retirement, will he be the first man to stop Wladimir since 2004?

Let's take a look at what Klitschko must do to pull-off what most would consider to be a mild upset.

Keys to Victory - Wladimir Klitschko

The 41 year old future Hall of Famer must learn from his two most recent bouts, against Tyson Fury and Bryant Jennings respectively, and absolutely cannot commit to being the aggressor against a powerful and athletic sharp-shooter like Anthony Joshua.

Klitschko is traditionally an effective counter-puncher by trade, so Wlad would be wise to stay in the pocket and wait for A.J. to come to him.

Before his previous two outings, the former universally recognized world champion hadn't been forced to adopt this uncharacteristic role in the ring since taking on former Cruiserweight Eliseo Castillo in 2005. Because Klitschko is a big man in the squared circle who depends on using his feet and jab to keep his opponents from mid to long range and has great deficiencies on the inside, most of his past opponents have elected to aggressively rush the former champ and apply pressure from start to finish.

(Joshua vs Klitschko prediction from Deontay Wilder)

So the Ukraine native has grown accustomed to being the ring matador during his impressive boxing tenure, and customarily uses his footwork and straight left hand as the foundation of his defense.

To win the IBF/WBA titles this evening, Wlad must not adopt an aggressive mentality against a murderous puncher like Joshua.|

Also, Wlad absolutely must win the jabbing contest and establish his sharp left hand from the opening bell of round number one. A combination of lateral movement and a healthy dose of jabs to the current champ's head should be able to disrupt his young opponent's timing and rhythm, and should enable Klitschko to dictate the pace of the scheduled 12 round fight.

If Wlad successfully establishes his jab, while being patient and forcing Joshua out of the pocket, keeping him from mid to long range, Klitschko could pick up a career defining victory, as well as the IBF and WBA titles.

Keys to Victory - Anthony Joshua

The primary key to a successful title defense against his toughest assignment to date is to establish the jab and win the jabbing contest.

Tyson Fury seemingly established an effective blueprint against Wladimir by successful controlling range with his jab and forcing Klitschko out of the pocket, unwisely adopting an aggressive mindset.

Because the lead left hand is the experienced fight veteran's primary weapon, as well as his first line of defense, negating the famous Klitschko jab is absolutely essential for victory...but, the task is much easier said than done.

Wladimir Klitschko vs Anthony Joshua
Date: Saturday, April 29, 2017
Location: London
Venue: Wembley Stadium

Broadcast: SKY Sports (UK); Showtime (U.S.), HBO (Delayed U.S.)
Division: Heavyweight
Titles: WBA (Vacant), IBF

Champion: Joshua (IBF)
Favorite: Joshua

Anthony absolutely must get off first, doubling and even tripling his jab at times, also utilizing lateral movement, causing Klitschko to become hesitant in throwing his lead left hand.

If A.J. can do this, he should have no problem taking care of the future Hall of Famer and defending his title!!

Joshua vs Klitschko Prediction:

Although Anthony Joshua is the justifiable favorite going into the contest, A.J.'s youth and inexperience will prove to be a big factor in determining the winner of this intriguing Heavyweight contest. Wlad will shock the world by landing the hook off of the jab in round five, and put away the undefeated champ in round 8!!!!

Klitschko TKO8 Joshua
