Klitschko vs Jennings: Time, odds, channel, stats & facts
On Saturday night, Wladimir Klitschko, who is starting to be compared to heavyweight greats of the past, will attempt to make his 11th defense of his lineal title and 18th consecutive defense as a fighter with a portion of the heavyweight title.
His opponent will be Philadelphia native Bryant Jennings (19-0, 10 KO) who hopes to shock the world and become a real life Rocky Balboa.
So what time is the Klitschko vs Jennings fight?
Kllitscho vs Jennings Time:
10pm ET (U.S.)
The fighters may walk in the ring closer to 11pm ET/2AM London depending on the length of the televised undercard bout.
Sadam Ali (21-0, 13 KO) vs. Francisco Santana (22-3-1, 11 KO)
10 rounds, welterweights
Klitschko vs Jennings will serve as the champion's first bout in the U.S. in seven years and first as a father; Klitschko and fiancee Hayden Panettiere welcomed Kaya Evdokia Klitschko on December 9.
On the line, of course, will be Klitschko's lineal heavyweight title and his many belts.
Klitschko vs Jennings Odds
Bovada has Klitschko as a -1400 favorite to win once and the challenger as a +750 underdog. Bet $1400 on Wlad to win $100 and $100 on Jennings to win $750.
But keep in mind, from Jack Johnson to Jack Dempsey to Muhammad Ali and Wladimir Klitschko, when fighters face the heavyweight champion of the world, they are usually well-prepared and in the best shape of their lives.
Win or lose, the Bryant Jennings who will fight Wlad will be the best version of the Philadelphia native we will have seen thus far. And while it may not be enough to dethrone the lineal champion, don't expect Jennings to be a literal 'cake walk' either.
Klitschko is a 'rock star' in Germany and in other parts of Europe and when he fights, regardless of the opponent or venue's location, it's an "event" in the 'Land of Chocolate' not unlike The Kentucky Derby and NCAA Final Four in the United States.
However, Wlad is hardly a mainstream celebrity here and his popularity is modest at best, despite his tremendous success in the ring. In fact, a heavyweight champion hasn't been mainstream in the States since Lennox Lewis retired in 2004.
Will Klitschko vs Jennings help restore some of boxing's lost luster in the U.S this time?
And will Jennings, like Buster Douglas following his knockout over Tyson, become a star over night should he orchestrate the upset?
