Vasyl Lomachenko defeated Nicholas Walters by way of stoppage this past Saturday at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

The referee never physically stopped the fight, instead Walters quit in his corner after the seventh round.

Leading into the fight Lomachenko, 7-1, 5 KO's was a clear favorite for the sports bookies. However, nobody could have predicted the fashion in which he absolutely dominated. Larry Merchant once dubbed boxing, "the theater of the unexpected", last night was a perfect example of why this holds true.

Walters, 26-1-1, 21 KO's was never in the fight. In fact, Lomachenko had his way with the former feather weight title holder from the opening bell. The Ukrainian born fighter did as he pleased with Walters. It was a boxing masterpiece as he frustrated Walters with his unorthodox boxing movement.

It is no surprise why his nick name is "Hi Tech".

Walters was unable to deal with the slick lateral movement that Lomachenko possesses in his arsenal. The Jamaican born fighter, Walters, is a puncher with devastating power but he never found that big punch all night. Lomachenko simply had too much speed and movement and frustrated Walters.

His frustration boiled over into the interview which almost sounded as an excuse as to why he lost the bout.

"Almost a year without fighting. I went up in weight," Walters said. "He was more active. So if you watch the fight, you see he's been scoring more than I do. My good shots, they are not connecting. He's connecting more clearly than I am touching him. In the last round, he started catching me more and more. He's a good fighter."

Walters acknowledged that he was beaten by a better man and simply had no answers. He believed that it would be a waste to continue in a fight in which he was being outclassed and beaten to the punch.

"It wasn't about quitting," Walters said. "If you look at the last round, he caught me with some pretty good shots, and I was holding on just to survive the round. It would be stupid to come out ‎after that last round."

It was a special night for Bob Arum, the promoter for both Lomanchenko and Walters. The event marked the 2000th fight card that he had ever put together. It was a special performance by Lomachenko on a very special night, after such a brilliant performance sky is the limit for the WBO title holder Lomachenko.
