Manny Pacquiao: Can PacMan's trainer cultivate the talent?
"Freddie Roach is fortunate to have a natural fighter like Manny Pacquiao who has the ability to make it to where he currently is," stated the hard working 41 year old trainer.
"I would love to see Freddie Roach take a fighter from ground zero and build him up to the world championship level."
"Freddie has never cultivated a fighter from the amateurs or the club level and turned him into a world champion."
The always-candid and energetic former Lightweight contender has been cultivating raw talent since taking on his two younger brothers, Antonio and Julio. Since that time, the dedicated fight mentor's reputation has grown immensely. But according to Diaz, the work ethic and mission statement hasn't changed one bit.
"Around the time Tim was getting ready to fight Juan Manuel Marquez last year, I got a kid from Mexico with a record of 19 wins and 14 losses by the name of Juan Carlos Martinez, who hadn't fought in two years."
"I was able to get him a fight in Vegas with Super Featherweight contender Alejandro Perez, who already had a title fight scheduled on May 31st against WBA Regular Champ Nicholas Walters. That was this past Saturday night.
Before the fight, I told Top Rank that they needed to cancel Alejandro's trip to Macau, because it wasn't going to happen."
"We beat Alejandro Perez, the number one contender in the WBA, this past Saturday night."
"That victory meant so much to me, because I grabbed a kid that no one believed in who had 14 losses on his record and hadn't fought in two years, and basically brought his career back to life. Victories like that mean so much more to me than any Trainer of the Year award." "Freddie couldn't or wouldn't do that," insists Joel Diaz. "
He gets fighters who are superstars already. I would love to see him take a fighter from ground zero and cultivate him into a world champion. I would love to see it, but I won't for the simple reason that he can't. He doesn't have the ability to do it."
On Saturday, April 12th, the dedicated fight trainer will get another opportunity to show the world who has the better fighter and who is the better boxing instructor.

"I can tell you this right now, if Manny can't knock Tim out, they're not going to win," declares the former Lightweight contender.
"They've been saying the entire time that they're going to be aggressive and throw a lot of punches on fight night. I hope they do. Because they're going to run into something really special...just like they did when they faced Marquez."
We will find out in ten days.
