Manny Pacquiao: Why was he denied that shot, again?Hot
According to the superstar boxer, who suffered a tear in his right rotator cuff three weeks before the fight, the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) had initially approved his use of numbing injections after his camp submitted a request two weeks ago.
...But on fight night, according to Manny, Nevada rescinded.
PacMan's injury is a pretty big deal so it's understandable why his team considered postponing the fight. Their presumed saving grace, however, was Nevada's alleged decision, a few weeks prior, to allow Pacquiao to take injections of lidocaine, celestone and bupivacaine an hour or so before the fight.
The above agents, which are approved by the United States Anti-Doping Agency, would have numbed the pain for about six hours.
"The problem is we were sabotaged," Manny told reporters at his Delano Hotel suite yesterday.
NAC Chairman Francisco Aguilar told the media the commission was not aware of the supposed initial request for the injections a few weeks ago and admitted they declined Team Pacquiao's request for the injections, hinting the ask came too close to fight time (90 minutes).
According to Manny Pacquiao, the injury was made worse in Round 4 when he unleashed several barrages on Mayweather with the latter's back against the ropes.
"I needed that shot," Pacquiao stated.
“I really needed that shot because if I throw a power hook or power jab, it hurt.”
"My rate of my performance was only at 60%. 60% because my mind wanted to do it, but it was outbalanced because I was only relying on my left," he said.
"I’m so disappointed in the commission because I believe they know but only they said we didn’t fill out the form," said Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 knockouts).
But Manny was clear he was not one to make excuses.
"I want a rematch if he wants. I wasn’t 100% ready for last night because of this shoulder but I don’t want to use that complaining that I lost the fight. I’m just accepting the fact that I lost."
He added, "At least to the people, I was the winner."
Question: Given the shots were legal, why was Manny denied? Even if his request was last minute, which he insists wasn't, why did Nevada refuse to allow him to take a numbing agent?
