Manny Pacquiao: Is PacMan prophetic?Hot
Does fight legend and current WBO Welterweight boxing champion Manny Pacquiao have the gift of prophecy?
Given he's a devout Christian, some will surmise Manny might be able to receive divinely inspired messages that serve as indicators of events that have not yet transpired.
Pacquiao, in a recent interview with Corp Australia (as reported by The Daily Telegraph), said he foresaw his losses to Floyd Mayweather (2015) and Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012.
During the aforementioned interview, Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz and publicist Fred Sternburg confirmed Manny had told them he dreamt about losing to Floyd prior to their bout.
“I have a lot of beautiful stories, and special stories, but this story is really kind of encouraging for us,” Pacquiao said.
“And I wrote this (in my diary).
“I’m in training for the Mayweather fight ... in LA."
Pacquiao vs Horn
Date: July 2, 2017
Venue: Suncorp Stadium
Location: Brisbane, Australia
Champion: Manny Pacquiao
“One month before the fight I had a dream."
“And my dream is the fight with Mayweather, and in that dream I lost the fight."
Moreover, Manny, who believes he should have been awarded the decision, insists he dreamt he lost the fight in controversial fashion.
“But I saw, there is controversy, it’s not clear, there’s a protest."
And while there was little public controversy about the scoring, Nevada's decision to not allow Pacquiao to take a legal numbing agent for a badly injured shoulder is disputable and Team Pacquiao did protest that decision.
Juan Manuel Marquez
Prior to being knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012, Manny said he, prior to the fight, had a vision of sorts it would happen.
“On Marquez fight, I never felt bad (about) what happened because I saw that one week before the fight," Manny stated.
“It’s a message. It’s a favor, I’m so thankful because God told me ahead of time (to be prepared).
“Sunday night (before the fight), I had a dream and I tell everybody, asking them ‘What is this?’
“After the fight, if you watch the fight, when you review the fight, when I’m in the ring, I just smiled because I remembered my dream.
“It’s from the Lord.
“You cannot say I make (up) a story because the fight is already finished, no, I told (people) ahead of time.”
Is Manny Pacquiao prophetic or was it a coincidence?
And is it normal for a fighter in training to dream about losing an impending, high-profile bout?
A young Mike Tyson also stated he often dreamed of losing an upcoming fight, insisting those nightmares made him train harder. Of course, Mike won those fights (early in his career).
Sugar Ray Robinson's extraordinary vision
Often regarded as the greatest of all fighters, pound-for-pound, Sugar Ray Robinson insisted he once dreamt about killing an opponent in the ring.
.... The next day, it happened.
“I woke up in a cold sweat, yellin’ for Jimmy to get up – get up – get up," Robinson said after the bout.
"My yellin’ woke me up, I guess. And the sight of Jimmy lyin’ there on the canvas in the dream seemed so real that I had the jitters when I woke up. And I couldn’t go back to sleep. I just laid there, tossin’ around in bed. And I felt lousy the next day. And in the back of my mind I felt scared every time I thought about the coming fight.”
In fact, some sources insisted Ray's dream terrified him so much that he wanted to cancel the fight. But those around him convinced 'it was just a dream.'
Robinson floored Jimmy Doyle with a devastating left hook in the 8th round, knocking his opponent out cold. Doyle was carried from the ring by a stretcher and never regained consciousness.
Pacquiao vs Horn
Manny says he has yet to have any premonitions about his upcoming bout with Jeff Horn, and I doubt he would share them with the general public if he did. However, one must wonder what impact such dreams, whether holy, coincidental or simply part of the human psyche, have on a fighter's mindset heading into a bout- Especially when a fighter is convinced those dreams are divinely inspired.
