Manny Pacquiao vs Jessie Vargas: "It would be an absolute war"
This past Saturday night, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, undefeated fighter Terence Crawford decisively outpointed former 140 pound title holder Viktor Postol to become the WBC,WBO and Ring recognized Super Lightweight champion.
Leading into the highly anticipated unification bout, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum told the boxing media that the Omaha, Nebraska native was one of three candidates being considered for future Hall of Fame fight legend Manny Pacquiao's return to the ring, currently slated for November 5 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
One of the other two fighters currently receiving consideration for the assignment was at ringside, enjoying the event at the MGM Grand, and shared his thoughts on Crawford's winning performance after the fight.
"He did a great job," stated Jessie Vargas. "He fought a phenomenal fight, and didn't make any mistakes. He did what he had to do to win, and I congratulate him. Now he's the new WBC/WBO (140 pound) world champion."
"I thought it was going to be tougher than it seemed to be, just because I thought he(Crawford) was going to get caught a couple of times, and that might disrupt his game. But no...he stayed in control the entire time."
Because the boxing world seems to be currently buzzing about Crawford's pound for pound effort this past Saturday night, the current WBO Welterweight titlist talked about his chances of being chosen for the opportunity to face Manny in November, over the universally recognized 140 pound champion.
"It's all up to Bob and Manny...we'll have to wait and see," said Las Vegas based champion. "As good as he(Terence) looked, I don't know if Manny will want to move back down to 140 pounds. "
When asked to state his case as to why Pacquiao and his promoter, Top Rank Inc, should choose him as an opponent over TC, the hard working, Hispanic fighter gave a very humble but honest response.
"I think they're both great match-ups, but it's two different fights...two different styles. I know with me, for sure, it would be an absolute war from both sides."
Bob Arum and the Filipino Senator are expected to make an announcement this week concerning who Manny will be facing in the Fall.
