Manny Pacquiao vs Jessie Vargas: Like PacMan vs Morales?
When Manny Pacquiao and Top Rank, Inc. initially announced a November 5 match-up between the Pacman and WBO Welterweight champion Jessie Vargas, many boxing critics and fight fans believed the eight division world titlist chose the "easy money" match-up against the most lightly regarded title holder within the talent enriched 147 pound division.
The hungry, young WBO champion from Vegas refuses to accept the idea that any truly knowledgeable boxing fan genuinely believes his fight against Pacquiao will be "easy" for the first ballot Hall of Famer.
"I think very few people believe that," Jessie Vargas stated to ESNews. "Overall, this fight was made because it's a fan friendly fight. It's going to be an action packed fight…similar to the first fight between Erik Morales and Manny Pacquiao, where it's all action. It's going to be blood, sweat and tears. That's why this fight was made."
"If there are people who really do say that, just tune in on November 5, and I'm going to prove you wrong. It's going to be a fight of the year candidate, and you're going to remember this fight for years to come."
Vargas claims the November 5 PPV event will be just one more fight that he wasn't supposed to win, and one more time that he proves his detractors to be incorrect.
"I've fought and beaten several undefeated fighters in which their promoters thought they were going to be superstars. You know, even Top Rank thought some of the fighters that I beat were going to be superstars before I fought them. Golden Boy thought their fighter, Sadam Ali, was going to be a world champion and a superstar because they thought they were going to defeat me."
"I want to continue to prove everybody wrong."
The 27 year old champion has been the victor in 27 different match-ups, with his lone loss coming in controversial fashion against former two-division world titlist Timothy Bradley in July of 2015. Jessie has defeated seven undefeated fighters leading into their respective bouts, including big wins over Anton Novikov, Khabib Allakhverdiev, Wale Omotoso, and most recently former Olympian Sadam Ali.
The Hispanic fighter believes he will shock the world with a big victory on November 5.
"Every great fighter throughout history has won a fight they were expected to lose," claims the current WBO champion. "This is that fight for me. Top Rank believes I can become a superstar by defeating Manny Pacquiao, and that's why this fight was made."
