Manny Pacquiao vs Saul Alvarez For $65 Million in Mexico?
Will Pacquiao fight 21 year old, undefeated WBC Light Middleweight Champion Saul Alvarez?
According to The Manila Paper, billionaire Carlos Slim has offered Manny Pacquiao (55-3-3, 38KOs) US$65 million to fight WBC Light Middleweight champion Saul Alvarez in Mexico.
Apparently, negotiations are currently underway for the fight and the guaranteed $65 million. Although only 21, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez appears to be an up-and-coming fighter with heaps of talent and a bright future. He has already amassed a record of 36-0-1 with 26 knockouts.
Alvarez is a full-fledged light middleweight (154 lbs) who would have a decisive size advantage over Pacquiao. In addition, the crowd will likely be hostile to Pacquiao - especially since he has defeated the some of the country's best. Dubbed as the 'Mexican Killer', Pacquiao has vanquished the following Mexican fighters since 1995: Oscar De La Hoya, Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera, Antonio Margarito and Juan Manuel Marquez.
If this is true, will Mayweather become an after-thought to Pac Man, Roach and Arum?
Perhaps Mayweather will wait and fight the winner of Pacquiao vs Alvarez?
If the story is accurate, I'd be concerned about Manny going to Mexico to fight an undefeated, naturally bigger, stronger fighter on foreign turf.
Alvarez fights English boxer Ryan Rhodes (45-4, 31 KOs) June 18.
