Mayweather vs Khan close? Did underwhelming performance secure fight?Hot
Is no secret to any die-hard or casual fight fan that former Super Lightweight Champion Amir Khan is actively seeking a PPV pairing with pound for pound king and future first ballot Hall of Famer Floyd Mayweather Jr.
But after a surprisingly competitive and somewhat controversial performance against former title holder Chris Algieri on Saturday, May 29, many believe the talented Briton isn’t deserving of the opportunity.

Although the boxing skeptics may not agree with current indicators, Khan’s vulnerable showing against the Huntington, New York native may have actually guaranteed a headlining slot opposite the biggest name in boxing on September 12.
The 28 year old contender seems to think Mayweather vs Khan is imminent.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been closer to getting the fight with Floyd Mayweather than I am at this moment,” Amir Khan told SkySports.com on Tuesday.
“The indications are that I’ve strengthened my case with my win over Algieri and I believe there is every chance the fight could be confirmed within the next two weeks.”
After a grueling camp with head trainer Virgil Hunter, the devout Muslim is getting ready to take time off for religious observation, beginning on June 17. For an entire 30 day period, Muslims around the world are asked to spend the daylight hours in a complete fast for spiritual cleansing.
The former Olympic Silver medalist is hopeful a deal will be reached with the highest earner in sports before he begins the religious retreat. But if an accord can’t be made with Mayweather in an appropriate allotment of time, Khan claims he has no problem moving beyond a super fight with “Money” Mayweather.
“I have waited too long and, while I believe it is finally going to happen, I am still determined to pursue other big fights in the United States once I have had some time off with my family,” claims the talented UK based fighter. “The Welterweight division is one of the hottest in world boxing at the moment and there are any number of other possibilities, including Miguel Cotto and Keith Thurman.”
Did Khan finally secure a September 12 fight date with Floyd Mayweather Jr. by putting on a less than scintillating performance this past weekend? Did the seemingly uninspired effort finally bait Floyd into an eventual showdown this Fall?
Will it be Mayweather vs Khan on September 12? The truth will be revealed within the next several weeks.
