Mayweather vs McGregor prediction: Elite trainer issues warningsHot
FightHype.com recently caught up with elite-level training Virgil Hunter who offered some very insightful 'scientific' observations on the upcoming bout between fight legend Floyd Mayweather and MMA star Conor McGregor.
Instead of discussing Floyd's obvious experience and technical advantages, Hunter elaborated on McGregor's perceived physical and genetic disadvantages.
"His body, he has the waist of a model...he has a waist as opposed to a [fighter's] trunk. He has a waist instead of a trunk," Hunter stated.
"A truck is powerful but he has more of a model waist. If I'm thinking like Floyd, I'm thinking about the body...his body is going to be very vulnerable..."
"Also, he has what we call the 'Fighter's Curse.' He has deep bone ridges over his eyes. I noticed he has been cut a lot in MMA fighting. He also has a jetting [or protruding] chin. But I expect him to cut over the eyes because of the bone ridges. When those snapping punches hit you in the eyes like that, he'll get cut worse than in MMA."
Regarded by many as the best cut man in boxing and MMA, Team McGregor purportedly passed on Stitch Duran.
"They said he was [overpriced]," claimed Hunter.
"You'd wanna get the best cut man that you get to keep you in the fight. Now, he can't stop you from getting cut but he can stop the cut from stopping you in the fight."
"His work is proven... I think it's foolish if they don't meet his price."
"I don't know if it's McGregor's decision or his team’s decision, but his team is not in there getting hit in the eye and getting cut up."
"With the money being made, [Stitch's fee] is just a penny in a pile of money."
Without offering a result prediction, Hunter seems to suggest McGregor will have difficulty absorbing body punches and will cut early.
The no-nonsense trainer began working with troubled youths in probation before serving as an apprentice for several years in Oakland, California with trainers Bobby Warren, Jimmie Simmons, Charlie Smith, and Tiger Floyd.
He began training eventual Olympic gold medal winner Andre Ward when latter was nine. The undefeated Ward, still trained by Hunter today, is RING Magazine's top boxer in the world, pound for pound.
