Over the last several weeks, the World Boxing Council (WBC) staged a fan poll to determine the design of a special, hand-crafted WBC belt, commemorating the historic, May 2 event, which will finally pit the two best fighters of this generation, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacqauiao, in the squared circle.

The survey asked fans to choose between two equally beautiful and distinctive belts; one made of Emeralds, and another made of Onyx.

The fans’ choice was the WBC Welterweight Emerald title, which sports 24 Karat Gold backdrop encrusted with a small fortune of natural emeralds worth almost $1 million. In addition, the fighters' likenesses will also be captured in pure 24 Karat Gold.

The “Emerald” version won the fan poll with 53% of the popular vote.

Because the “Mayweather vs. Pacquiao” purse is projected to break all previous live gate and PPV records in becoming the highest grossing event in boxing history, the extravagant and luxurious distinction seems only fitting.

The commemorative WBC title will not be treated like a normal championship belt that can be defended with future victories.  Instead, the belt will be viewed exclusively as a trophy, which will be awarded to the winner of the highly anticipated May 2nd contest, and will not be subject to defense.

Which fighter will be draped in emeralds after the dust settles in less than two months? Fight fans will get to find out on May 2!!
