Mayweather vs Pacquiao: “Fighters like Manny only come around once in a lifetime,” insists conditioning expert

Joseph Herron Updated February 13, 2019

With less than five weeks remaining until the massive showdown between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, strength and conditioning expert for the Filipino Congressman, Justin Fortune, claims the Pacman is as focused and as sharp as he’s ever seen him before a major prizefight.

“Manny is sharp right now,” insists conditioning coach Justin Fortune. “He’s motivated and he’s happy. Those are the two most important factors for a successful training camp. No drama and no poisonous pills in the gym. All business.”

Because Team Pacquiao understands the gravity of the event on May 2, the heralded fitness coach has implemented new drills to concentrate on bringing out specific elements in head trainer Freddie Roach’s strategy for the best defensive fighter on the planet, Floyd Mayweather.

Fortune claims the adjustments in training have been relatively easy with a fighter as athletically gifted as the eight division world champion.

“Each opponent entails a different training technique and different training methods to improve and bring out different qualities in the fighter. But it’s easy with Manny. He has a great work ethic and he’s an old school fighter with old school discipline. He has the natural athletic gifts and combines it with world class discipline and work ethic.”

“Fighters like Manny come along once in a lifetime. He‘s such a special athlete and fighter.”

Although the Pacman hasn’t stopped anyone in the ring since 2009, the former Heavyweight fighter claims Manny still possesses devastating power for his size.

“Manny’s punches feel like a Light Heavyweight is hitting you,” claims the former Heavyweight contender. “I was surprised. They’re so fast…it’s like, Jesus!! This guy can really punch. Manny is so fast and stupidly strong.”

“The way Manny is looking right now, it’s going to be a great, great fight on May 2.”
