Mayweather vs Pacquiao: "No sparring partners can prepare Manny for Floyd," states expert trainerHot
Yesterday, it was reported by several media outlets that seven-time trainer of the year Freddie Roach chose two sparring partners to assist Manny Pacquiao in his training camp while the Hall of Fame boxing coach was out of the country with IBF Flyweight title challenger Zou Shiming.
The two young fighters Roach selected for Manny’s initial sparring sessions are Rashid “Speedy” Lewis (13-0, 10 KOs) and Kenneth “Bossman” Sims (5-0, 2 KOs). According to the renowned boxing mentor, both fighters were chosen because of their uncanny ability to replicate Floyd Mayweather’s fight style in the ring.
Three decade fight trainer and FightSaga Radio personality James Gogue claims that Roach’s alleged find is merely a product of wishful thinking.
“There are no fighters in the world who can replicate what Manny’s going to see on May 2,” affirms the astute boxing expert.
“You can watch tape and work with guys who try to emulate Floyd, but it’s totally different once you get in the ring with him.”
The expert strategist points out that Floyd’s style is much more versatile than most fighters and trainers realize.
“Most people are under the impression that he merely uses the shoulder roll and that’s it,” claims James Gogue.
“But his natural gifts enable him to change strategies at any given time within the fight…he uses his reflexes, athleticism, and high ring IQ to discourage his opponents. When they start missing punches and begin eating sharp, counters, his opposition always begins to second guess themselves and lose confidence. It’s called mentally breaking down your adversaries…Floyd does it to everyone in the ring.”
“You can combine Lewis and Sims’ ring IQ and multiply it by 100, and that still won’t equal Floyd’s ring intelligence."
"Unfortunately for everybody else in the sport, no trainer can teach what Floyd possesses in the ring. Mayweather is blessed with God given ability.”
Gogue gives Manny only one chance to win on May 2nd.
“Manny has a puncher’s chance against Floyd Mayweather,” insists the three decade fight trainer. “And if the Pacman lands a punch that hurts Floyd, he’d better put him away. Because he’s not going to see that opportunity again for the remainder of the fight.”
“Freddie and Manny have no clue what they’re up against…but they’ll find out on May 2nd. Unfortunately there are no sparring partners available who can imitate Floyd’s abilities in the ring. They find out the hard way on fight night.”
