Mayweather vs Pacquiao prediction: Controversy
MAY 2, 2015 - Boxing's biggest fight in history, Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao will finally happen.
Recently, KO Radio Online caught up with 5-division World Champion & Hall of Fame boxer Sugar Ray Leonard who shared his thoughts on Mayweather vs Pacquiao.
"If you want to be the best pound-for-pound you fight the best pound-for-pound."
"The eras of the 1970s and 80s were amazing and I'm blessed to have been in that time..."
When asked to compare tonight's showdown with megafights of the past, Ray stated:
"[Mayweather vs Pacquiao] is equal to the [biggest] fights in the 1970s and 80s."
"It's not 5 years too late because every fighter has that one fight left in them. I had that fight when I fought Hagler, coming back [out of retirement]."
When asked for his prediction, Ray stated:
"You give the edge to Mayweather but.... I wouldn't bet my house."
Was Sugar Ray's mention of his controversial win over Hagler foreboding?
Mayweather vs Pacquiao is already as big or greater than Leonard vs Hagler but will it resemble the historic 1987 showdown in another way?
Will Mayweather vs Pacquiao result in controversial decision? Will it be 'Leonard vs Hagler' all over again?
For the last 28 years, fans have debated with each other incessantly over the decision (Leonard SD 12) which remains one of the biggest controversies in professional sports.
Moreover, very few insist it was a draw as the high majority feel one or the other clearly won the fight.
Judging is subjective and officials place varying levels of emphasis on scoring criteria.
For example, if two of the three judges selected to score this fight in Las Vegas tend to place more emphasis on activity rate than defense, the fighter who throws punches in bunches will have a clear advantage going in.
Conversely, if at least two judges tend to place greater emphasis on punching accuracy and defense than overall volume, the defensive-minded sharpshooter will have a proverbial head start when the bell rings.
Given their contrasting fight styles, will Mayweather vs Pacquiao be controversial too?
