Mayweather vs Pacquiao prediction: Same outcome if it happened in 2009, insists Hall of Fame inductee
Boxing legend and 2015 Hall of Fame inductee Ray 'Boom Boom' Mancini predicts Floyd Mayweather will defeat Manny Pacquiao on May 2.
While he admitted he may be rooting for Pac-Man, he likes Floyd by decision due to the latter's 'size, strength and speed.' Moreover, he is convinced the delay in making the fight will have no impact on the fighters' strengths and strategies, and the ultimate outcome.
"The fight should have happened a long time ago but the same thing I said would happen six years ago I think will happen, I think Mayweather beats him," Mancini recently told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
"They're both special fighters but Mayweather is bigger, faster and stronger, that's a trifecta in boxing."
Nevertheless, Ray still insists Pacquiao's style will be difficult for Floyd to solve.
Many believe Mayweather had been ducking Pacquaio, insisting the style match-up favors Manny. If Floyd did, in fact, previously purposely avoid fighting Manny, has Mancini found the reason?
"Pacquiao is a bad style for Mayweather because Mayweather likes to lean to his right and Pacquiao doesn't fight like a traditional southpaw, he does things backwards."
"Pacquiao moves to his left [and] Mayweather bends his body right in line for a left hand."
It will be an interesting fight, I think Pacquiao will make him fight right from the jump and it will be interesting to see what happens."
As Mancini suggests, Floyd may have to fight out of his comfort zone to avoid running into Pacquiao's straight left, a devastating punch when landed flush.
An entertaining brawler back in the day, Ray 'Boom Boom' Mancini held the WBA lightweight championship from 1982to 1984 and is part of the 2015 class for the International Boxing Hall of Fame. During his career, the fan-friendly Mancini faced the likes of Hector Camacho, Livingstone Bramble, Bobby Chacon, Alexis Arguello and Jose Luis Ramirez.
Ray Mancini will be a guest on FightSaga Radio Thursday, March 19. The show will air at 9pm ET. Listen live or find the press release to access the embedded audio player.
