Methyltestosterone: What is 'Methyl-T?'
Earlier this week, it was announced MMA legend Anderson Silva had failed a random drug test.

Silva maintains his innocence so let's hope he receives fair treatment following a thorough investigation.
The UFC great tested positive for two performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) after participating in a random test administered on January 9 by Nevada Athletic Commission, 22 days prior to his cage fight with Nick Diaz at UFC 183 in Las Vegas.
The PEDs drostanolone and methyltestosterone were found in his system and Silva's win may be changed to a no contest as a result.
Drostanolone is a popular steroid among professional athletes but methyltestosterone is an oddity of sorts as it mechanism of action is not well understood.
An oral steroid, methyltestosterone, or 'Methly-T,' is, chemically, very similar to testosterone and used to treat men who cannot make enough testosterone naturally. Testosterone, of course, is crucial for many normal bodily functions, including the growth and development of genitals, muscles, and bones.
Methyltestosterone is an androgen and, like testosterone, can also be effective in treating young men with delayed puberty.
"Methly-T is a classic performance enhancing drug, and is effective, fast-acting and can build lean muscle mass quickly," Travis Tygart, chief executive officer of the United States Anti-Doping Agency, told Yahoo!'s Kevin Iole via email.
"It would certainly be a potent performance enhancer, particularly in a combat sport."
Despite its muscle-building attributes, Methyltestosterone is not known for its anabolic effects and may not help users get ripped and pack on pounds of rock hard muscle.
Hence, one seeking a sculpted physique may overlook Methyltestosterone for much more effective alternatives.
This drug is typically used by powerlifters to increase aggression and explosiveness and is, perhaps, most beneficial for day-to-day workouts. A slight strength enhancer at best, methyltestosterone is fast-acting and can certainly inject added 'pep' and instensity into one's training.
Methyltestosterone tablets are swallowed for faster absorption and often taken 10-20 minutes prior to the start of one's workout.
The PED can be toxic and, if abused, may cause acne, gynecomastia, aggression and water retention.
