Mike Tyson Featured in Super Bowl Commercial
Fight legend MIke Tyson will be showcased in a 2016 Super Bowl commercial in a Michael & Son ad.
In the commercial, he steps in the ring to knockout a boxer who is about to knockout his opponent, presumably Mike's son.
At one time, advertisers steered clear of Iron Mike due to his controversial past. He was well known for his ferocious and intimidating boxing style as well as his contentious antics and comments outside the ring.
Lately, however, he's been a kindler, gentler Mike.
Several years ago, we saw Tyson in a Footlocker ad where he returned Evander Holyfield's ear.
Michael & Son is family owned and operated and has been servicing the Virginia, Maryland & Washington DC area for over 30 years.
Their services include plumbing and heating and air conditioning installation and repair.
Each company airing a Super Bowl commercial purportedly paid CBS a minimum of 5 million dollars per 30 seconds of precious air time.
Eager to promote their goods and services before an 100 million viewers, most advertisers will insist the money was well spent..
Will we see Mike Tyson in more ads?
Tyson held the undisputed world heavyweight championship and holds the record as the youngest boxer to win the WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight titles at 20 years, 4 months, and 22 days old. His knockout power and intimidation factor made him the sport's most dynamic box office attraction.
'Iron Mike' declared bankruptcy in 2003, despite having received over $30 million for several of his fights and $300 million during his career. At the time it was reported that he had approximately $23 million of debt.
He is considered an all-time great.
