Oliver McCall, 54: Former champ returns Sep 28Hot
FightNews.com is reporting that 54 year old former WBC Heavyweight Champion Oliver McCall (59-13, 48 KO) will step in the ring again September 28.
His opponent will be 30 year old journeyman Grover Young (13-27-3, 9 KO) and the fight will take place at Hobbs Corral Arena in Hobbs, NM.
Sporting a two-fight win streak, McCall last fought May 31, stopping Hugo Lomeli (21-13-1) inside the distance.
Will Oliver McCall challenge for the heavyweight title again at this stage?
Five years ago, at 49, McCall defeated previously unbeaten Marcin Rekowski (then 12-0) in the latter's native Poland.
Dubbed 'The Atomic Bull,' McCall is best known for orchestrating a colossal, one-punch knockout upset of then WBC heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis in 1994. He was also Mike Tyson's best sparring partner in the late 1980s and early 90s.
"I guess I sparred more than 300 rounds with Tyson and he never knocked me down once. But I put him down once," McCall said years ago.
During his turbulent, roller coaster career, McCall has also defeated the likes of Larry Holmes (Highlights), Lionel Butler, Bruce Seldon, Jesse Ferguson, Francesco Damiani, Oleg Maskaev, Henry Akinwande, Przemyslaw Saleta, Sinan Samil Sam, and Fres Oquendo.
Then WBC Heavyweight Champion Lennox Lewis is floored by McCall in 1994.
Fact: Oliver McCall has never suffered a true KO loss in 75 fights. Of his 13 defeats, his only stoppage came when he experienced an emotional breakdown against Lennox Lewis in 1997. He wasn't hurt in that bout but the fight was stopped when McCall, in tears, refused to fight and stopped defending himself.
To call him durable would be a massive understatement.

Like the fictional Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th movies, Oliver McCall just won't go away.
