Oliver McCall: Steel-chinned warrior returns to avenge son's loss

Lee Cleveland Updated February 13, 2019
According to BoxingScene, former WBC heavyweight champion Oliver McCall (56-13, 37 KO) is lined-up to face unbeaten heavyweight Polish prospect Marcin Rekowski (12-0, 10 KO) in February.

Last May, Rekowski defeated Oliver's son, Elijah (then 11-2-1), via a 5th round TKO.

The 48 year old McCall last fought in May, dropping a very close eight round decision to Poland's Krzystof Zimnoch (then 14-0-1) in a bout some had McCall winning.

Dubbed 'The Atomic Bull,' McCall is best known for arguably being Mike Tyson's best sparring partner in the late 1980s and orchestrating a colossal, one-punch knockout upset of then WBC heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis in 1994.

During his turbulent, roller coaster career, McCall has also defeated the likes of Larry Holmes, Lionel Butler, Bruce Seldon, Jesse Ferguson, Francesco Damiani, Oleg Maskaev, Henry Akinwande, Przemyslaw Saleta, Sinan Samil Sam, and Fres Oquendo.

And despite his high level of opposition, the ultra-durable McCall has yet to be really stopped in 69 bouts. The sole TKO loss on his record occured in 1997 when he entered his rematch with Lennox Lewis with serious emotional issues, had a mental breakdown in the ring and quit without putting up a fight.

McCall vs Rekowski will take place February 1 in Opole, Poland.
