Rosie Perez: "It's time to step up, Canelo Alvarez"Hot
This past Saturday, September 10, in front of a sold out O2 Arena in London, England, undefeated KO artist Gennady Golovkin once again successfully defended his Middleweight championship against the game but overpowered IBF Welterweight title holder, Kell Brook.
By breaking the gallant Briton's orbital bone sometime during the second stanza of the scheduled twelve round fight, Brook's corner prompted referee Marlon Wright to step in and call a halt to the bout at the 1:57 mark of round 5, to avoid any serious or permanent damage to the 30 year old fighter.
Although Golovkin ultimately earned another stoppage victory on his perfect record, many felt the Middleweight kingpin showed some serious chinks in his customarily "sterling" amour. Triple G's ostensibly "sloppy" performance was still impressive enough to attract the attention of Oscar nominated actress and big boxing fan Rosie Perez.'
"I thought that Triple G was not himself and he still won the fight," Rosie recently told TMZ Sports. "Unfortunately he broke the guy's face. If there is any other doubt out there, come on, people! Give him (GGG) the fights that he deserves!"
The talented dancer and actress truly believes that denying any prizefighter of his just rewards is indeed a reprehensible act.
"What people don't understand is that it's not just about a belt. It's about a person's livelihood. They put their lives at risk every time they step in the ring for our entertainment. Pay the man. He should be getting PPV status; he should be getting Canelo Alvarez money."
Canelo Alvarez money? Is Ms. Perez implying that GGG's next outing should be against the current lineal Middleweight champion, Saul Canelo Alvarez? And is the die-hard fight fan and avid ringside observer further insinuating that the popular Mexican fighter is currently avoiding the hardest punching Middleweight in the world?
Yes, to all aforementioned inquiries...respectfully, of course.
"You know what, I love Canelo...I really do. I'm always rooting for him," admits Rosie Perez. "But it's time to step up! Make the negotiations happen and fight Triple G! Put all of the doubters to rest. I want to see Triple G fight Canelo Alvarez."
Rosie is a savvy enough fight fan to ascertain that Alvarez doesn't genuinely fear Gennady Golovkin on a personal level. In fact, the 52 year old entertainer is confident a fight between Canelo and GGG will materialize sometime next year.
"I think we're going to see it in 2017. They're both great guys and everything, but I think you know where my money is."
Canelo is slated to compete in the ring this Saturday night, September 17th, against current WBO Super Welterweight champion Liam Smith of Liverpool, England. The scheduled twelve round main event will be distributed by HBO PPV with a price tag of $64.99 in HD!!
