Saul Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders reportedly reach agreement for May 2

After much deliberation, it seems that Saul Alvarez has finally found an opponent for his scheduled date during Cinco de Mayo weekend.

Canelo will reportedly be facing current WBO Super Middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, May 2, 2020.

Due to many negative reports coming from Eddie Hearn and Oscar De la Hoya throughout the past week, the news may come as a surprise to many interested observers.

Matchroom Sport, MTK and Team Saunders were given a firm deadline this past weekend by Golden Boy Promotions to come to an agreement or risk completely missing the opportunity to face the biggest global commodity in boxing.

Although details are pending, both parties have ostensibly come to an agreement and will be squaring off in just 75 days.

As a result of a deal finally being reached, fans should expect to hear an official announcement from DAZN, Golden Boy, MTK and Matchroom Sport within the next few weeks.

Current IBF Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, who was also being considered by Team Canelo for the May 2nd fight date, will finally be able to pull the trigger on his re-scheduled match-up with mandatory challenger Kamil Szeremeta in May as well.

While waiting for Team Canelo to make a firm decision on an opponent for Cinco de Mayo weekend, GGG had pushed back the tentatively scheduled defense four times. Depending on how both men fair in May, the long-awaited third fight between Golovkin and Alvarez is a genuine possibility for Mexican Independence Day weekend, which would fall on Saturday, September 12th, 2020.

In the interim, Canelo vs. Saunders should be a difficult match-up for both fighters, with Alvarez being the slight betting favorite.

Because the current WBO 168 pound titlist is a crafty southpaw and a talented counter puncher, many experts view the match-up to be potentially problematic for the Mexican favorite.

As a result, most race and sportsbooks currently list Saul Canelo Alvarez as a humble 3 to 1 (-300) betting favorite, with Billy Joe Saunders being viewed as a very live 2 to 1 (+225) betting underdog.

Can Canelo Alvarez once again be victorious adopting the role of aggressor in this difficult style pairing?

Fight fans will finally get to see how this interesting match-up plays out on Saturday, May 2nd, 2020, in Las Vegas, Nevada on DAZN USA and Sky Sports Box Office in the UK.
