Former heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs (60-6-1, 53 KO), 48, is interested in joining World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), per a recent interview with Miami Herald's Jim Varsallone.

A WWE junkie since back in the day, Briggs was a fan of wrestlers such as Bruno Sammartino, Bob Backlund, Andre the Giant and Mr. USA Tony Atlas who was, according to Varsallone, his favorite.

As a youth, Shannon Briggs enjoyed a successful amateur stint, becoming a New York City Golden Gloves champion, New York State Champion, and National P.A.L. Champion. In 1991, he finished second in the heavyweight division at the Pan American Games after losing to Cuban amateur legend Félix Savón.

A heavyweight oddity of sorts at the time, Briggs won a majority decision over 48-year-old, then-lineal heavyweight champion George Foreman in 1997 in what is still considered one of the biggest high-profile robberies in the history of the sport.

In his following bout, Briggs rocked then-WBC Heavyweight Champion Lennox Lewis in the early rounds before being systematically taken apart and subsequently knocked out in five.

But Shannon wasn't finished. He would gain a bit of redemption in 2006 by dramatically winning the WBO heavyweight title, stopping Siarhei Liakhovich in the final three seconds of the contest.

Briggs lost that belt to Sultan Ibragimov the following year but worked his way back to title contention and, in October 2010, faced then WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko. Shannon would lose a brutal one-sided decision verdict but his courageousness and never-say-die effort gained the respect of fans and critics alike.

Following the loss to Vitali, Briggs took 3 1/2 years off and gained a lot of weight, dimming expectations we'd ever see him in the ring again.

However, Briggs would return to boxing February 2014 looking more like Mr Olympia than Fat Albert. Some insisted he looked a little too muscular for a 42-year-old but, in reality, he appeared quite the physical specimen for a man of any age.

During his comeback, Briggs not only showcased a new, sculpted physique, he tacked on newfound charisma and bravado.

A la George Foreman some 20 years earlier, Shannon had re-invented himself and created more buzz outside the ring than inside it.

... But Briggs showed he was still well-capable of backing up his swagger in the ring. In 2014 during a 7-month span, Shannon would fight and win 6 times, earning 5 knockouts in the process.

His antics, including his obsessively bizarre stalking of then heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko as well as his popular 'Let's Go Champ' movement and devastating string of knockouts earned the then 42-year-old a lot of press.

Briggs, who hasn't been in the ring since May 2016, would be PERFECT for WWE. (Check out the attached video)

Vince, sign him up!

(Shannon also wants to compete in Bare Knuckle Fighting but WWE would be a much better fit and probably a lot more lucrative)

Let's Go Champ!
