Tim Bradley: Only Mayweather, Pacquiao and Cotto have more impressive resumes
Top 10 pound-for-pound fighter and former two division champion Tim Bradley (31-1-1, 12 KOs) will be mightily tested again when he faces undefeated Jessie Vargas (26-0, 9 KO) in a welterweight showdown at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. on June 27.
Bradley vs Vargas will be televised on HBO and the pair will contest for the newly-vacated WBO welterweight title.
Can the 31 year old Bradley fend off a young, tough technician like Vargas?
Having already defeated the likes Nate Campbell, Kendall Holt, Miguel Vasquez, Devon Alexander, Carlos Abregu, Lamont Peterson, Ruslan Provodnikov, Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao (controversial), will Bradley next add Jessie's name to the former's list of vanquished high-profile foes?
Perhaps only Miguel Cotto, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao have a more impressive list of opponents, pound-for-pound, as one would be hard-pressed to find another active fighter who has defeated such impressive opposition.
And despite his draw with Diego Chaves in December, a bout many believed Bradley deserved to win, Tim's stock remains high and a victory over a surging unbeaten foe like Vargas would likely place him in line for a mega match-match-up with the likes of Brandon Rios or Kell Brook.
Conversely, should Vargas defeat Tim, the former would become a powerbroker in boxing's hot welterweight division overnight.
With only 12 knockouts in 33 fights, Bradley doesn't get the respect he deserves. He's an action-packed, throwback boxer who can do it all. He fights well on the inside and outside, can box on his toes while using fine movement and can transform into an effectively aggressive brawler at a moment's notice.
But despite, or because of, Bradley's accomplishments, fight legend Roy Jones Jr, who is training Vargas, thinks Tim's resume may be a hindrance and recently suggested Bradley may be a bit shopworn due to his many ring wars, especially his 2013 Fight of the Year with Provodnikov.
Tim hasn't faced a polished, hit-and-move technician like Vargas in quite some time so it will be interesting to see what be the fighter dubbed 'Desert Storm' showcases from his bag of tricks come June 27.
