Tyson Fury defeats HammerHot
Today, charismatic Brit top ten heavyweight Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KO) defeated Christian Hammer (17-4, 10) in London.
The latter failed to answer the bell for Round 9.
With the win, the 26 year old 6'9" Fury solidified his status as the WBO's mandatory challenger for world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.
Fury won first two rounds, keeping his foe at bay by controlling the distance and utilizing his long jab. Hammer would whack the favorite in Round 3 but Fury absorbed it well.
The Fury route continued and, in Round 5, the Brit floored his German foe who appeared shaken but not seriously hurt.
After watching their fighter absorb more punishment in Round 8, Hammer's team decided to halt the action. Tyson appeared to have won every round and it was obvious Hammer had no answer for the Brit's size, strength and skill.
Tonight served as a good stay-busy fight for Fury who looked very sharp. His footwork has improved immensely in the last few years and he is more adept at slipping and picking off shots, and firing back with counters.
Who will Tyson Fury fight next?
Should lineal heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko win in April, a September showdown with Fury is certainly possible if not likely.
