Vasyl Lomachenko Vs. Nicholas Walters: Odds favor one

Lee Cleveland Updated February 13, 2019

Tomorrow night, WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (6-1, 4 KO) faces perhaps his toughest test to date, Nicholas Walters (26-0-1, 21 KO).

Lomachenko, of course, halted phenom Gary Russell Jr (then 24-0 14 KOs) over twelve rounds to set a record by winning a major world title with the fewest professional fights (3) in Summer 2014.

A legend in the amateur game, the 28 year old Lomachenko boasted a magnificent record of 396-1, with only loss, to Albert Selimov, avenged twice.

Can the athletic and savvy technician stave off Nicholas Walters?

According to oddsmakers, he certainly can.

Lomachenko enters this fight as the solid favorite across the board.

BetStars
Favorite: Lomachenko 9-1
Underdog: Walters 2-9

Bet188
Favorite: Lomachenko 10-1
Underdog: Walters 2-11

Underdog or not, Nicholas Walters is certainly no slouch. He's undefeated as a pro who, two years ago, dominated Nonito Donaire. In that bout, the Jamaican dropped Donaire with an uppercut in round three before closing the show in Round 6 with a hard right hand that sent the “Filipino Flash” face first to the canvas. Donaire rose at nine but appeared too hurt to continue.

But Lomachenko appears to have it all... Speed, power, awesome footwork and head movement. So make no mistake, he is the solid favorite heading into the fight.
